Fourth of July Parfait & a JJ Cole Review

kid friendly berry ideas

We have a quilt that my mom bought us years ago when we were first married and trying to decorate our house on a shoe string budget. It’s shabby chic and lovely, but it’s worn now and no longer matches anything in our house. We use it for picnics and things because it’s big and pretty, but since it’s cotton, it soaks up anything wet on the ground and gets heavy and gross.

Enter J.J. Cole. I was asked a few weeks ago if I would review their outdoor blanket and satchel bag, which I was given in exchange for this honest review. I hadn’t used any of their products before, but since I was familiar with their reputation, I said yes.

We tested out the outdoor blanket (in stone arbor). The design is cool – it folds up and velcros onto itself so it can be carried like a satchel. It’s lightweight and water resistant, too. Honestly, it’s pretty great. It’s easy to shake out, big enough for our family to sit on, and makes it easier to eat outside – something my kids are always asking to do.

For our blanket trial run, we made Fourth of July themed parfaits. They are so pretty and couldn’t be easier. Grab a half pint jar, 1/2 cup of Greek yogurt mixed with a teaspoon of honey, a couple of strawberries chopped up, and a handful of blueberries. Layer half of the yogurt, the strawberries, and rest of the yogurt, and the blueberries.

Serve immediately or make ahead for an easy Fourth of July breakfast.

What about the bag?fourth of july picnic ideas

The bag is cute, lightweight, and has a bazillion pockets for me to lose store things in. I used it for almost a month before writing this review, and I’m a big fan. It comes with a changing pad for diapers, a strap to make it over-the-shoulder, and two cool adapters for the rings on the side so you can hang it on a stroller. I’m not sure how long the handles will last since they’re not leather, but cloth material seems really durable. We’ll see how it holds up over time, but it’s my go-to bag right now.

So if anybody needs us, we’ll be outside! Happy Fourth, guys!
