Kiwi Avocado Salsamole

I love spicy salsa and guacamole with fresh tomatoes and chips. The problem is that this time of year, a good tomato is months away, and I'm starting to get a little tired of heavy winter foods. A girl can only eat so much kale and butternut squash, right?

So while tomatoes aren't an option, kiwis and citrus are in season. Lime, kiwi, and avocado are awesome together, but I couldn't decide if it was more like salsa or guacamole, hence the name. Regardless of what you call it, it's fruity, seasonal, easy, and pretty.  I'd love to add cilantro to this, but seeing as there's ice in my herb garden, that's not an option.

If your kids are weirded out by kiwi seeds or the crazy fuzzy skin, giving them a new ingredient in a dippable form should be a win. Served with chips or veggies, it makes a hearty snack or a fun side dish for a Mexican dinner. And if you need anything green for St. Patrick's Day, look no farther.

Kiwi Avocado Salsa
1 large avocado, diced
3 kiwis, peeled and chopped
white and very light green part of 1 spring onion, finely diced
1 tsp. lime juice
1 tsp. honey
dash of salt
dash of cayenne pepper

Stir all of the ingredients together. Taste to see if you want more lime, salt, or cayenne kick. Serve with chips. The lime will keep the avocado from browning, but this is still best if you eat it sooner rather than later.
